toxic mold exposure?

Steve asked:

Moving into my new room, I immediately noticed a formation of greyish-black substance on the ceiling. It was present in an 8 foot radius of the fan on the ceiling. The thickest concentration of this substance was in the immediate radius of the ceiling fan.

I believed at the time that this was simply dust, primarily due to the fact that the fan had been running in reverse, directing air upward, all winter long. As such, i treated it as dust in my cleaning.

This substance was easy to clean up with swiffer dusting pads. It came off easily without liquid and seemed to leave no residue behind.

About 3 days after this cleaning, I came down with a high fever and sore throat. 3 days later, symptoms subsided. My fear, however, is that this was in fact toxic black mold. Are said symptoms possible in excessive dust inhalation? Should I seek treatment for mold inhalation, or not worry since symptoms have disappeared?

Can I get help with black mold?

At Christmas last year the bank forclosed on my neighbor’s home (two houses down). We had an early thaw and because the pipes had froze they burst. This caused a TON of water damage and this spring mold. Mold everywhere!! It’s growing up and down (and all around I’m sure) the walls. Nothing visible outside yet.

My concern is that I’m pregnant and have a 14 month old son. I’m worried about our exposure. This mold is dangerous and can go airborn, just a matter of time.

The EPA is no help. I have contacted the Health Department but am getting no where. The realty company that bought the house is selling “as is” and has no plans to get rid of the mold.

With kids playing by the house (it’s a cul-de-sac) what recourse do I have? We have an active home owner’s board – do they have recourse also?

Thanks in advance!
1. It’s not my house that has spores
2. The health department can NOT condemn the house or take any action unless there is a complaint. None has been reported of yet (waiting for their forms to arrive in the mail).

than a Z Pack? I am taking the generic for Biaxin called Clarithromyc , 500 MG , 2 a day for ten days? Is that a stronger treatment than usual Z Pack? I have a recurring sinus/ear infection possibly from exposure to black mold in a basement apartment. Thanks!

I believe my sister has severe exposure to black mold in her home. She went to see her doctor thinking maybe she has a cold or asthma. The doc did a chest x-ray and said she has a cold. Would black mold exposure/infection show up on a regular chest x-ray? I’d appreciate any info or suggestions. Thanks!
