so i was taking a shower in my boyfriends bathroom when i happened to look up. know what i saw on the ceiling? Black, fuzzy, nasty, (and probably toxic) mold, EVERYWHERE! i cant believe i never noticed it before. I can’t get him to clean it so this weekend i’m going to do it myself.

can you tell me what products to use and how to do it? i’ve never cleaned a ceiling before.

He’s a jerk if he won’t clean it for you. Don’t go there until it’s clean enough. He should have his place spotless to have a goddess visit there.

Do NOT clean his bathroom for him. If you do, he’ll now expect you to clean up after him in OTHER areas. If he doesn’t clean the mold, don’t stay there and tell him in no uncertain terms that you aren’t his maid.

First you could try to use a vacuum cleaner with an attachment hose on it. If that doesn’t work, use Chlorox bleach spray… gotta put some elbow grease into it. Scrubbbbbb!

Bleach and lots of it!!… It will kill the mold. If it is a popcorn ceiling (bumpy) then make sure you don’t get it too wet because the texture will fall off in clumps. Just fill a spray bottle with bleach and water…i do 50/50 but you can also do less bleach if you choose. If its a flat ceiling you can wipe the bleach away if its the texture just wait for the bleach to do its thing. Once it is all clean and dry use a primer…Kiltz is a good one…make sure it says something about mold on it. You can also ask your local home improvement center to help you find a primer that will prevent the mold from coming back. Then once you have the primer up you can leave it as is or you can go over it with ceiling paint.
Don’t forget to take breathing breaks during the bleach and the pimer phase because both of those products are nasty smelling…also make sure the area is WELL ventilated…open a window and turn the exhaust fan on.

Mix a solution of one part javex and ten partswater and wash with a sponge, this will both remove the mold and prevent it recuring.

That could be a sign that there has been pipe damage there or that a pipe over the shower currently has a leak. (Or just that someone really is steaming up the bathroom when showering!)
That mold can make you very very sick. Be careful not to breath it. It may be best to run a vacuum attachment over it to begin. Once you have done that, use something like a whisk broom or a dry paint brush to gently brush away the remaining mold. Be careful not to let the stuff fly all over everywhere (you don’t want it to spread, of course!). Vacuum some more after it is thus loosened (again, watch out not to be breathing this stuff). Don’t saturate the area with bleach (be careful of that stuff as well, especially don’t let it drip into your eyes!) but maybe you can dilute some in water and lightly (so as not to hurt the sheetrock) wash the paint surface. Perhaps later you can lightly brush (using a paint brush) a bit on bleach over the area to kill any remaining mold spores. If it keeps coming back, you may have to have the sheetrock replaced.

And all of the girls are telling you how to do it.
Take advice from the guys. Don’t do it. But take notes on all of this helpful cleaning advice. Write it down and give it to hm so he knows how to do it himself.
Perhaps he hasn’t done it because he has no idea how to do it and he was hoping that you could advise.

Had the same problem in this house just bought. I mixed half bleach and half water in a spray bottle and put it on the stream setting and sprayed the heck out of it. You are going to want to cover your mouth and eyes when you do this because the fumes are killer. Anyhow, as I sprayed it, it just ran down the wall. After that I stood up on the side of the tub and wiped it off.
Does he have a bathroom fan in his bathroom? This could be because its not well ventilated and its humid in there. If he does make sure you turn it on everytime you take a shower and tell him to do the same. If not he should think about getting one installed. Also shutting the bathroom door after you take a hot shower and trapping that steam in there will cause this over time too. Prevention= ventilation… my guess is it is JUST surface mold. Good luck!

Try a product like exit mold or just straight bleach and warm water. Remember to wear rubber gloves or you will stink for days!! good luck its a yucky job
