Can I ask my landlord to pay a tenant relocation fee if I have to leave because the property is not up to code?

Hmmm?! asked:

My family and I will have to move due to uninhabitable living conditions.
The landlord found toxic mold in the house and everyone is at risk. It will be difficult to find affordable housing within the next couple of weeks. Can I ask the landlord to pay a relocation fee? I am sure he wants to avoid a lawsuit and thats why he rushing us out? (Also for our health-possibly).
Our lease is now month-to-month.
Our lease is now month-to-month.
And for the record, the only reason he would want to get rid of us is because he doesn’t want to be responsible for any health risks involved. If its a hazard to our health, we will gladly move. We have been great tenants. He always tells us that. We’ve been there for 11 years.

Absolutley. Take a good look at your lease and make sure that there is verbage in there that protects you in this case.

My take on it is he is in breach of his own lease. What would he do to you if all of a sudden you told him you had to move out?

My insurance on my rentals cover this. If I displace a tenant my insurance will pay for temporary lodging. Not sure what the law states but I feel as long as my tenants are paying rent I need to provide them housing.

You can ask but your not going to get it.

Mold, or fire same thing you have to move as the place is not safe.

You would cry about the mold if they didn’t make you move, now your crying because you have to move.

The landlord is doing the right thing and getting you out of there.

On a month to month lease, the landlord will NOT pay any relocation fees. All he is legally obligated to do is give you 30 days notice to vacate. Your on your own after that.
