black mold
smileysweetits asked:

I have an old bread box of my mothers that a glass of water spilled on and the water sat under it for 2 days and grew black mold. I poured bleach all over it and washed it and left it outside for 2 weeks and I would like to know if the mold is gone or could it still be there?

You can actually use a little bleach and water for that…not too much though. Rinse well

The bleach should do the trick. But that does not keep it from reoccurring. It may help to rub it with some veg. oil (Not a lot). That would seal the wood temporally.

#1 If it is black mold it was wet for longer than 2 days as black mold can take years to grow
#2 mold needs a source of moisture to produce so if you have bleached it and it is completely dried out the mold shouldn’t return

Most of it is gone but spore can still be in the wood grain. It’ll come back if the bottom gets wet again. You may want to seal the wood with a sealant, but be careful of which type you use and if you use an anti-fungicide be sure if they are safe for kitchen use.

I would toss it if the mold comes back since that means that it is comtaminated with spore.
