Can I act as my own attorney to sue sellers of house w/problems?

December 13th, 2010 3 comments
heading for 60 asked:

Sellers marked NO on real estate disclosure. 6 mos. later, we find severe toxic mold and multiple problems. California real estate agents no help. Insurance does not cover mold. Funds are tapped out. I cannot afford an attorney. Can anyone advise? Can I serve legal papers to sellers who moved out of state? We sent a cert. letter explaining the problems and asked for response within 10 days to avoid court action. Have not heard back (one week). Any honest help and advise would be appreciated.

Black Mold in my Apartment – HELP?

Anna D asked:

I moved into my apartment last weekend and have since discovered some water damage around the doors and windows and a really yucky black mold growing behind a lot of the molding. I know for a fact that almost the entire place was under water about three years ago but they have since remodeled completely. They claim that the water damage is from an irresponsible niece who left the doors open in the middle of rain storms.

Anyway, since moving in I have been having really bad asthma attacks daily, having to use an inhaler probably 2-3 times a day. I haven’t had to use my inhaler in YEARS! I wheeze almost continually throughout the night. I have contacted the landlord about this but they haven’t done anything yet.

What are my legal rights here? What can I do?

Help! My bathroom is caving in?

Crazymom asked:

I live in an apartment and last night my had went through my bathroom wall, exposing obviosly rotted dry wall.

I live in the suburbs of Chicago… what are my legal rights as a renter concerning the repairs and the fact that it’s a 1 bathroom and I will have to vacate while the problem is fixed? Also, I’m scared about the mold.. is it toxic black mold or just your average icky mold? Should I call the health dept? If it turns out to be toxic, THEN what are my rights?

Thanks so much for any answers!!
Hey kissybear, thank, but I don’t live IN Chicago, I live in the far NW suburbs, so the Chicago Housing Athority will be of no help. This isn’t a slumlord situation either… I’m just tring to make sure I cover all bases and that they don’t try to screw me.

I live in wisconsin, I’m looking for some laws on black mold but cant find any.
I called my landlord and told him about the mold but he didn’t seem real worried about it and said it would take anywhere from one day to a week to get here and look at it. Is that legal?
From all the info I have looked up on Black Mold it is a pretty dangerous thing that should be taken care of ASAP. Can anyone help it would be much appreciated. Thanks
