Is it possible to have asthma diagnosed even when you’re not in the midst of having bad breathing difficulty?

I’m 47, and no one in my family’s ever been affected by respiratory illness, so it’s something I’ve never thought about. A little over two months ago, I began having some symptoms that at the time I thought were related to a new medication. I was getting very winded with very little exertion, and I began to notice a strange sound almost like snoring, but more raspy when I would get tired. Also, when lying down, my breathing would sound weird at times. Then, I got a cough, not frequent, but bad enough for people to comment on it. Now, I feel at times like I can’t breathe deeply. I’m really tired. My son was sick last months with chest pain, an uncontrollable cough, and what they determined in the ER to be a viral bronchitis when it seemed to be getting no better after two weeks. I’m now 99%sure that we have toxic mold in our home, which I’m tending to ASAP, and very worried about the effect it’s had on my family. I want to get tested for asthma, but at this moment I don’t feel very bad.

Respiratory problems, they found black mold at work place?

Ok, so I started this new job at a movie theater. The first couple of days there I start to get an itchy throat and slight dry cough. The next week or so i get this uncontrollable very intense coughing that lasts so long i cant breath and get dizzy. It was very embarrassing working there around people because they assume i’m contagious.

I cough constantly. After about 2 1/2 weeks I went to a cheap clinic since I don’t have insurance. He quickly assumed I have asthma related to the work place (since this all started with a new job). He didn’t run any tests though.

So my coughing is now at home as well. I wake up in the middle of the night constantly coughing/hacking. Nothing is really coming up (as far as mucous). I do have GERD so I was thinking that this could be caused from the acid reflux. However…. today I go into work and they have part of the area closed off and have torn down a portion of the wall. A worker told me that they found mold in the sheetrock. I asked a worker what kind. He said it was black and there was quite a bit of it. Well… this place always smells musty and humid.

I’m definately thinking i’m having a reaction to the mold. Today, after they had opened up the walls to clean it… i started to get dizzy and short of breath after a few hours. I’ve been coughing for 3 1/2 weeks straight now.

What do you guys think I should do? I’m very desperate for work now (i lost my job with no warning 4 weeks ago and am behind on bills) but I also dont want to risk my health. Could it be a harmless mold that is black? Do you think this is all caused from the mold they found? I never had respiratory problems before. I really don’t know what to do. I’m going to have to figure out a way to pay for a doctors visit soon.

I just did recently find out that balck mold was in my closet close to where my 5 month old son sleeps. he was dignosed with RSV a month ago and i he hasnt got any better. hes taken all the medication, and i am worried. he keeps a runny nose, cough, a weese, and cant sleep for a long period of time because he coughs so much. ive taken him to the hospital and they keep telling me that its just from where he had the RSV. can you please help me. ive researched black mold for two days, and it never gives me the answer i need.
can the black mold cause the RSV?
we dont have the money to move, and its still snowing where we live. and i worried that if we cant get anything done, something will happen because its so harmfull.

Does bronchitis make you susceptible to other illnesses?

Last September I came down with severe bronchitis/mild pneumonia (cause: exposure to toxic mold in the walls of my old apartment). This illness lasted two months and I was stuck in bed for most of it.

I’ve notice that, since then, I have come down with more respiratory issues, like wheezing and tightening of the chest in cold temperatures, but I have heard that bronchitis makes you susceptible to these breathing issues for years.

I have also been getting sick with other issues. Since the bronchitis, I have had the flu twice, a cold, sinusitis, a kidney infection, a random infection on my skin (cleared up with neosporin and peroxide), and a couple of random fevers.

I never got sick this often before, so could these other issues also be because of the bronchitis? Also, I was on a great deal of antibiotics when I was ill; could that have an effect? Any information you could find on this would be helpful. Thanks!
