Could this be black mold in my air filter?

I recently changed my air conditioning unit’s air filter (it’s been probably 5 months since it was changed). It looked like this:

I’ve never seen an air filter this bad. Is it possible this is black mold? (I have several boxes full of papers in my house that came out of a house that definitely had a mold problem & the boxes & papers don’t smell so good). We also burn a lot of candles – like we have 2-3 candles lit all evening almost every evening. What do you think? Should I be worried about mold?

    Black Mold

If this were black mold it would be much darker. You will want to change your filter more often, especially when burning candles. You are introducing a lot of soot into your air, plus many wicks are made with lead in them, so check that. You may also consider getting a higher efficiency air cleaner like the Electro Breeze Duct Mount UV kit at. This will help with the dust and also kill the mold and viruses in your air. It is 97% efficient down to 0.3 microns and takes about 20 minutes to install. Check out the video on the site that show an actual install. Good luck!!
