From a Medical stand-point, how do you find out if you have been infected with mold?
Joan P asked:
We were doing a bathroom reno (wet dry-wall and vapor Barrier) that has black damp mold on it. My husband cleared the area but forgot to use a mask. Do you think he should see his doctor and what can be done?

Usually, it’s a daily exposure over a long period of time or exposure to a large amount of spores that cause concern. I wouldn’t consult a physician unless he’s having an increase in cough or chest congestion that’s unusual for him-no need to pay money if he’s not showing any symptoms that are cause for concern.
As long as he’s no longer exposed to it and isn’t having any residual problems, I think that his body’s inflammatory response has taken care of any of the mold that he could’ve inhaled. Just make sure he wears a mask next time! There’s a lot of danger involved in exposure to mold.
I’m sure that he’s fine, see a doctor if either of you just want to be on the safe side. God bless.
Their are no current tests that can be done to see if you have been exposed to toxic mold. If your husband continues to grow worse please ask your doctor for an anti-fungal med called nystatin pills. Please fix the original leak that caused the black mold to form before the renovation.
