HELP! HELP! Mouldy broccoli in oven, it’s toxic gas ?
Francis T asked:
My mother had forgotten a pan with broccoli in our oven. After four days, the broccoli moulded. I looked in the oven and saw (and smelled) the disaster! I jinked the Broccoli, but the oven stunk still. I cleaned the oven with baking spray. After that, I put an onion in the oven and power on. Then, the stink is very low. Can I bake safely as of now?

I would give the oven a quick wipe over with bleach or some other disinfectant. Make sure you rinse it thoroughly though as cooked bleach is probably just as bad for you.

I suppose you have cleaned everything thoroughly, removing every pan and detachable part in it? Now, get some large clean charcoal chunks and place in a bag made of fishnet. Shake the bag firmly to drop the small pieces of charcoal that may get into the oven. Place it in the oven to absorb the bad smell. To be sure, leave it there for a week. During that time, don’t use the oven. When you remove the bag, make sure no charcoal is left inside.
