How dangerous is cracks in bath tub? In terms of mold, etc?

bj_osterhout asked:

I left my landlord a voice mail already but in the meantime is it really bad if you get cracks in the tub? There’s about 5 small clusters of cracks in the front corner.. the whole corner is covered in some orangeish/reddish stuff (rust??) and the cracks have black stuff .. I just noticed it today

It will be difficult to get them clean. The cracks will be a perfect place for bacteria, germs and possibly mold to “live” Use and old toothbrush and bleach (or equally good cleaner) to clean the cracks. For the rust stains; I have this problem too. I find that The Works tub cleaner works the best.
    Hope this helps.

I would use bleach mixed with water. If there is mold or bacteria the bleach will kill it. Best if you can put it on and let it stay for 1/2 hour or more, then rinse really good. Good Luck!!
