How do I get rid of mold inside a sleeping bag?
mysoldierslove55 asked:
I have a nice -40 degree sleeping bag that I had to put into storage while I was moving and now it has little black mold spots all over it and inside some of the seams. How can I get rid of this? I don’t want to get rid of it, it cost a ton. I can’t dry clean it and bleach it (that’s what the tag says). Any ideas?

If it’ below 30F put it outside for a day that will kill the mold. Then wash it in HOT water and 2 cups white Vinegar with detergent let the washer stop after agitating for a few minutes and have it soak a few hours then inspect it and rewash it. That will also kill the mold. Finally putting it in the dryer will solve the rest of the issue.

Mildew is a kind of fungus. Vinegar will kill it sometimes. Wash the bag according to instructions and add a cup or two of vinegar to the water. The acid environment will kill the mildew. Then hang it in the sunshine. Mildew will not grow under the rays of the sun.

Wash the sleeping bag on the hottest water setting it can tolerate. Add 2 or 3 scoops of OxiClean and about a cups of baking soda to the load, along with your regular laundry detergent.
Then hang it air dry.
