How do you know if you have mold?

My apt has been newly renovated….its nice but they kind of did a crap job. Sometimes my clothes smell like an old attic, and when I leave the house I notice it most. I looked under my sinks and the black pipe surely had white stuff all over it. Is that mold and is it un-healthy? How much to fix it when I report it to the apt leasing agent?

theres tons of info online about mold… but you can also try calling your local health department. i work for a health department and we have inspectors who can go out and determine whether or not its mold and a possible source (unless its in the lease, its most likely the owner’s responsibility to remove and correct source of chronic dampness).
