How does black mold affect pregnancy?
Katie asked:
I am 37 weeks pregnant and I just discovered we have had black mold growing in our air ducts for months. Does anyone know how this may affect an unborn baby? I read that it could cause birth defects but it is not proven. Has anyone had this happen to them? Also, do you know what birth defects it may cause? My doctor did not seem to worried but he said he was not very educated on the effects of mold on pregnant women. Please help!

I dont think it is that bad.Remember our ancestors lived in caves and stuff.
I don’t know about the birth defects black mold can cause….but it can make anyone in your house very sick…usually over time. If you don’t get a professional to come and remove it, people have been known to die from it, on rare occasions. Black mold is a silent killer, people go months and months feeling sick all the time, and get worse with many doctors not finding a diagnosis. Get it out of your house, for you & your families future health.
Search the net, to find more about it. Best of luck to you.
I was also pregnant and found mold in our home.I don’t think I would worry about birth defects. To affect the baby to that messure, I believe you would have had to ingest a lot of mold. I asked my dr about it and she said it can lead to sinus problems.
I agree with the air purification gal. I’ve never heard of birth defects, but it’s certainly something you and a newborn don’t want to be exposed to. Check out the symptoms (including death):
Ideally the mold will be removed from the ducts. In the meantime, check out the remarkable research on toxic mold removal done by environmental expert Dr Ed Close. Simply diffusing a therapeutic-grade essential oil regularly in this building will likely result in an environment very hostel to mold.
Im wondering if any mold can affect an unborn baby?? I was recently just 20 weeks pregnant and my baby died for no known reason, that he just stopped growing. Im starting to think its the mold in the basement near my room thats inbetween the walls due to flooding…..
I am so so sorry to hear of your loss.
My wife and I have lost a baby in the womb and know the pain.
To answer your question I have heard of no evidence that mold has any effect on unborn babies. I’ve done a lot of reading on this subject, but please to satisfy your own needs do some more research yourself, and don’t just take the word of a man with a blog.
All the best for the future.
my son was born with lung problems and is 3 months old his left lung will not stay inflated. i lived in a mold infested house my entire pregnancy and was very sick at times. if anyone has and information on the affects mold can have on fetuses please let me know.
I’m 30 weeks pregnant and developed a lung infection, which I was convinced was related to mold in my home. The home was tested and extremely high levels of penicillium/aspergillus were found. I am now out of the house and feel so much better physically, but I am very worried about my baby. I too am looking for information on this topic and there does not appear to be any research with humans on the effects of inhaling certain types of mold on a fetus. There are studies with rats that show some types of molds cause birth defects–but I can’t seem to find the research and I don’t know what types of birth defects have been found in rats exposed to mold (and were the rats inhaling or ingesting the mold?) Does anyone know?
I am very curious about any follow-up information from the people who have posted here. How are your babies doing? Thanks.
@christy
