GroundZERO 63 asked:

I helped to clean out a basement that had been severly flooded a couple years ago and the entire thing was full of black mold on the walls. We where there for about 4 hours, we where in and out of the basement. Don’t you have to breath it for long periods of time before is has any permanent affects?

usually prolonged exposure causes the worst effects but if a person is sensitive or allergic to it they can also be permanently affected.

While short exposures to mold may not do any real damage, prolonged exposure or moderate exposure to a good supply can cause some problems. That is why masks or respiratrs shoudl always be worn when dealing with mold; especially when removing it and thus making it airborne.

Whiel you may be okay, I would suggest you get a doctor’s appointment and insist he do a thorough physical wiht emphasis on the respiratory system. Then get hte respiratory part checked every 4 or 5 months for a year or two just to be sure.
