The law states if the house's condition is unlivable, you can relocate and deduct that prorated amount out of the rent. This will not violate your lease since most, if not all, leases state the condition in which the house is in prior to renting it. I had this happen where the mold was in my air vents because the air conditioner stopped working. I took a day off work and purchased a professional sprayer from Home Depot. Bought a gallon of bleach and a face mask. Opened up the vents and sprayed as far back as I could. If you have mold, chances are, it is airborne so make sure you change your vacuum bag and vacuum the entire house. There was mold on 2 walls and I sprayed there as well. Since it is bleach, make sure you protect the carpet before spraying. Unless you are in the hospital, being treated for a condition which was caused by the mold, the health department doesn't care either. Lawyers wont touch a case like this unless there is grave injury or death. I realize you posted this a couple months ago but maybe it will help someone else. :) Good luck!
