I’m guessing this is mold? but i have not been able to get rid of it. Has anyone else had this problem? Can anyone tell me what it is or how to take care of?

run the washer with NOTHING but bleach in it and run it on the hot/warm cycle. this should get rid of it, if not you need to call maytag.

I pretty much agree with the first answerer. Try running the cycle with bleach and hot water but no clothes. If the bleach doesn’t get it, then try good old fashion elbow grease. Get a sponge and some dish soap and have a go at it.

If this works, from now on make sure you don’t leave clothes in the machine when its not running. You might even try leaving the door open between loads to let all the moisture evaporate.

If none of this works and your machine is still under warranty, then give Maytag a call, but if you are right and it is mold I’m not sure they will do anything to help you.

It’s called mold, which these washers are notorious for developing because people don’t leave the door open after they’re done using the machine like they’re supposed to.

Just clean it with bleach and baking soda and leave the door cracked so air can get to it from now on when you are done doing your laundry. Also moisten seal with oil from time to time to keep it from wearing out.

I have one of the first front load washers (magtag). I also had this problem which turned out to be a recall problem. It was repaired free of charge (replaced gasket), and I have not had mold in three years.

Wipe it down with bleach on a paper towel.
