Is denture cream safe to apply to braces?
Jessica asked:
I’ve been looking everywhere for vampire fangs for people with braces but cant seem to find any. So I looked up moldings and found out that If i were to mold non toxic clay to only cover the back, tip, and front of my teeth up to my brackets, you could basically apply adhesive to stick it on once the clay has hardened. I dont want to go that route. I want to try denture cream, which I also found out could be an alternative to adhesive through my research but nothing says that it is or is not 100% to be applied to braces. What are my chances if I do use the denture cream?

You wouldn’t find anything about denture cream and braces because it’s not made for braces.
I think if you apply the denture cream VERY carefully to your tooth at the top and bottom avoiding your braces you might be able to get away with it. But don’t forget when you press the fangs on, it denture adhesive is going to spread as that’s how it’s meant to work.
I’d also try this far enough ahead of the day you want to wear them so if it doesn’t work you have an opportunity to try again or find an alternative. It would be wise to do it during your orthodontist’s hours in case you pull a bracket or wire off.
As for the clay, make sure it isn’t from China. Many products, as you may already know, that come from China are contaminated with substances harmful to human health such as lead.
If you air dry the clay, it is not going to stay in one piece once your saliva starts working on it. If you know someone that does their own pottery and has a kiln, I would suggest you ask their help. They can use clay that is specifically made for pottery so it would be safe in your mouth. They can customize your fangs, fire, paint and glaze them. If you don’t know anyone, check the Yellow Pages.
