Are you sure it’s black mold? I think it’s too cold for mold. It maybe dust and dirt getting into your attic through small leaks in the attic insulation from the floor below which also means that you’re losing heat at the same time. Seal up the gaps with insulation or expanding foam. While you’re there, check your ridge vents and soffit vent for blockage.

I work around black mold all the time. It is always related to moisture.
Is there a leak in your roof OR like someone else mentioned ..you may need more vents.
You also might put a Dehumidifier up in the Attic and see how much water you pull out of there.
Black mold spreads like a disease. Spray it down with a bleach solution or a Lysol type spray will work too.
You can get real sick from it …. especially if you have allergies as well.

warm moist air from everything you do in your home is escaping into you unheated attic and condensing on the cold surfaces where it forms mildew/mold. this happens when homes are sealed up on the outside but not below the attic. to fix this problem you will need to seal up any air leaks from the lower floors and increase the insulation and ventilation. also make sure that you have not blocked soffit vents with the insulation. the good news is that cold weather is a great time to mess with insulation since you can wear long sleeves and pants to do this, and be sure to use a dust mask. to kill the mildew/mold, spray it with a 10% soulution of bleach and water, and just wet it, don’t soak it. good luck, hope this helps

It’s hard to say unless you get the mold looked at by a certified mold professional if it’s black toxic mold or not, it could just be you never know.

If your going to do the mold cleanup yourself make sure you wear a mask, goggles and gloves. Toxic mold can cause VERY serious health issues and is nothing to joke around about.

if you have black mold in an area that does not get sunlight and is a result of a water leak or water source then its more than likely the bad toxic mold. you need to call someone immediately to take some samples to a lab to test for stachy mold. If its stachy leave your home immediately!!!!!!!!!
