Mould and Damp in the house?
deanne_blondie asked:
I am currently in a rented house. When we moved in the landlord didn’t mention that it had some damp (it looks like cream coloured mould that is powdery) but now it has started showing through the paintwork. I am a little concerned as it is getting bigger and it is on the middle (surrounding the main light switch) of a support wall so I am baffled as to where it has come from.
Since then have also noticed some black mould starting to show through on a wall by my living room window. I am concerned as you hear horror stories about toxic mould in peoples houses and I am asthmatic.

Is this something my landlord should get sorted and could it be detrimental to my health?

Take pictures of it for your records. call your land lord and tell them to fix the leak. you need to document this , so you do not get blamed for the damage. Mold could not be good for you.

Many sickenesses and even death have been from mold getting in the air that you breath. Mold grows by releaasing spores, or cells to reproduce. And can be from harmless to extremel toxic.
Call your city building inspector. The land lord will have to get rid of the mold, abate and kill it it, let you out of your lease so you can move, or put you in another location that does not have a mold problem.

Definitely take pictures even a video and record the dates etc. then call the landlord to have it sorted, if they dotn then threaten with municipal inspectors, he should do something, if he doesn’t then call the inspectors and have them go after him. you can get seriously sick.

Get a 5 gallon bucket of “OIL BASED KILZ” 9 inch roller sleeve with a 1/2 inch nap,and a gallon of paint thinner. Take pictures of the mold and start painting away. Cover all of the molded areas well with the Kilz. Make sure u have a couple fans going and all the windows open in the house.
You should be able to charge the landlord a months rent for doing this yourself.
Don’t just sit there and wait for someone to do it..it’s your health…ACT NOW!

Contact your local health department, they will do the proper testing to see if mold is toxic. Your landlord may not be able to collect rent during this time, but you need to make sure with you local authorities first.
