I have lived in my apartment for 8 days now and i have told the office that there’s an enormous amount of black mold ALL over the tile of my bathtub. I had told them about it 3 days before i moved in and i see that they came in a caulked over the existing mold because you can see right through it but its still on the walls. there is some in ceiling too. all this issues were suppose to be taken care of before i moved in. can i break my lease if they don’t handle the problem? Im pregnant and i have a young child as well and ive been going to my parents to bathe because im so grossed out by it. can i go to the board of health? im pretty clueless about the whole situation.

I am 30 and live with my father due to things that happened to me financially. I have lived on my own before with my own place so it’s not like I’ve always lived with him. Right now I have a job that I like and it pays decent ($32k a yr). I take him about $1,000 every 2 weeks. My question is..do I stay living with my father or move out now into my own apartment? I have mixed emotions on this since I am afraid of moving into another apt that has toxic mold in it and also I am single and have 2 dogs that I will be walking at night at the apt. I am not really saving money right now since I eat out all the time since I don’t have a kitchen in the place I stay in. I have a car payment, car insurance, gym membership, phone bill, etc. I don’t date any guys since I live with my dad (how embarrassing-I couldn’t bring any guy home with me that’s for sure). I am hesitant to move because I don’t know if I can make it financially. What do you think? Please help I can’t decide :(
take him is supposed to be take home lol

I have to babies we all sleep together I’m a single mom. I live in an apartment that i continually complained about mold they never did anything about it. One day when i finally decided to just leave I found a huge sheet of mold that looked like moss behind a shelf.
I profusely told them that I wanted to be there when the regional maintanance person came to see it. They did not let me know Bottom line he came and he just cleaned it. Did he clean properly? I don’t know. Did he really do a test on th mold to make sure it’s not toxic? I don’t know? Can they do this. Are there now millions of spores in my little apartment?

Black Mold in bathroom?

I live by myself in an apartment w/ negligent landlords. Noticed a few weeks ago black mold growing on ceiling of my bathroom. It seems that upstairs tenant may have had problems w/ his toilet because the spot w/ the mold is slightly warped from wetness, and located where his toilet would be. I have called landlords twice, left messages on their machine, four days apart. They haven’t gotten back to me. I plan on sending a certified letter to them so I have proof they received it.
With 4months of my lease remaining, I worry that they will not let me out of it & I will have to pay the remaining months. Do they have to let me out of the agreement by law because it is unsafe? I have no options, no place to go when they eventually come to clean it. Should I require landlords put me up in a hotel?
What shall I do in the meantime? How much of a risk does this pose? Ive been getting headaches at night but am unsure if they are related. Should I remove all my belongings from the bathroom and keep the door closed?
How can I tell if it’s affected anything else in my apartment; if the spores can travel and spread. Do I need to get rid of anything in my apartment?

Some of the people ive spoken to dont think its a real threat, but it doesnt sit well with me.
It isnt something I can clean the surface of. It looks like the drywall needs to be cut out and replaced. There is no window. The vent is weak, and I ALWAYS use the fan when showering.

Black mold in my apartment, what should I do?

I’ve lived in this apartment for a little over a year, and noticed black mold cropping up here and there. There is a small patch of it in the bathroom near the floor by the shower, which has clearly come through a patched-over area of the dry wall. There is also a very small, faint amount growing on the ceiling above the shower. There are faint signs of it in my kitchen cupboards as well, which were also clearly painted-over. We also found it growing in these little shelves on the insides of the doors of a small stand-alone pantry in the kitchen.

I have felt tired all the time, have been getting headaches here and there, and have been coughing all the time for over a month now. My boyfriend lives with me and he already has allergies and asthma, and they have both been worse.

We didn’t realize what was going on before, and already signed a lease for next semester and next school year. What should we do to have our landlords rectify the situation? Are we legally allowed to break the lease and move elsewhere? I’m really worried about this and don’t feel comfortable living here now. Are there any other worse health problems this can cause?

Any info or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance.
