My husband and I are remodeling our kitchen. We are both pretty handy so we are doing most of the work ourselves, with help from a contractor on the major parts.

Demo started and there is mold in the drywall and on the bottom half of some of the beams/wood/studs. We are re-constructing most of the kitchen, so any mold we can see will be completely out of the house soon anyway.

The mold is black, does that mean it’s BLACK MOLD? Also, are we safe in the mean time until it’s all gone and the new materials are in place…it’s exposed?

I’ve been sick for two months. Even my cat sneezes pretty regularly. I didn’t think much of it until I remembered the time our apartment flooded this spring. I found some black mold in a closet under the stairs, asked that they investigate further and demanded that they replace the drywall. That was 6 months ago. Today, I decided to investigate on my own.

When I went to the store to buy a face mask (to protect myself from FURTHER contamination) I spoke with the cashier. The previous tenants in my exact unit were her son and daughter in law. They had a mold problem, and she told me exactly where it was.

Can I use this info to terminate the lease immediately? Is there any further legal action I can take against the apartment complex for knowingly renting an apartment out that was toxic?

Help with mold in wall?

I recently found mold under the trim in our bedroom. After having the mold tested I found out it was not toxic so I decided to try and fix the problem myself. I tore out a foot of the drywall and there wasn’t much more than an inch of mold on the drywall. I bought a special mold killer certified by the EPA to clean up the mold. The problem I have run into is that the point the mold started was on the other side of the wall and I believe it traveled under the wood beam that goes across the floor from the wall. I am concerned that even if I clean up the other side of the wall with the mold killer and replace the drywall I tore out that the mold is still underneath the footer beam of the wall and I am afraid it will come back. Do I need to tear out the ENTIRE wall to fix this problem? Or is there a way I can be certain the mold that might be under the wood is dead?
